Daniel Lapp

Daniel Lapp is an Swiss - Costa Rican artist, who creates abstract sculptures using wood from the tropical forests of Costa Rica. He works with naturally formed pieces of wood using a subtractive and reconstructive technique to reveal inherent aesthetic qualities of abstract art such as organic form, texture and colour. Respecting nature and using only wood that has naturally fallen, Lapp gives each piece a second life.

My work submerges me in the immensity of the tropical forest – a world of songs and colours that die and are prolonged, allowing me to utilize its fallen trees. These pieces of precious wood invite you to contemplate nature in its raw state. Each one represents the unique forms of the forest that today resist to their own extinction, leaving a legacy of fallen trees, the continuation of their existence in space.
